THE SCIENCE

BodyMedia FIT Armband has multiple sensors:

MOTION//   The Armband contains an accelerometer, a device that measures motion. (Your vehicle air bag system has an accelerometer in it that lets it know when your vehicle is in accident).  We use it to measure how you move from multiple axes and perspectives, allowing us to better understand your activity.

STEPS//   We count your steps, using the accelerometer to measure the distinct patterns created by walking and/or running.

GALVANIC SKIN RESPONSE//   When you sweat, your skin becomes more electrically conductive. This measurement help us see how active you are.

SKIN TEMPERATURE//   There's an electronic thermometer inside your armband that helps BodyMedia FIT know how hot you are.

HEAT FLUX//   When you move, your muscles produce heat. We measure the heat that's flowing from your body into the environment.

Once we've gotten these “readings” we can determine what kind of exercise you're getting, and how difficult it is for you. That's important since your body burns calories differently than anyone else's.  Our clinically proven algorithms crunch your numbers – pairing up sensor data with calorie information and presenting it to you via the BodyMedia FIT Activity Manager… so you know how far you are toward reaching your goals.

JUST TRACKING STEPS ISN'T ENOUGH
To lose weight, it's good to have an accurate picture of your calorie burn. BodyMedia FIT system uses four sophisticated sensors to track over 9,000 data points— from heat to sweat to steps to calories burned — every minute of every day.  If you take a walk, most body monitors (ours included) show a level of calorie burn. Take that same walk up a mountain or any incline and we'll show you a higher calorie burn. BodyMedia FIT captures that important difference because our sensors measure more data points.

DATA DOESN'T MEAN SQUAT UNLESS YOU USE IT
BodyMedia FIT makes it easy. Just plug the unit into your computer's USB port each day to automatically upload info.  Then simply log in the food you ate and our exclusive Activity Manager* tool gives you a complete report of progress toward your weight loss and fitness goals, including number of steps taken, time spent in low, moderate and vigorous activity, nutritional analysis and sleep efficiency.  Plus, it keeps a running record so you know when you've hit a personal best.
